No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum
If you’re a history buff, this one is a must. During World War II, Terrell was home to the first British flying school in the United States, training thousands of Royal Air Force and American pilots. The museum tells that story through original artifacts, photos, and a flight simulator that’s fun for kids and adults alike. Guided tours are available, and the volunteers who run it are genuinely passionate about sharing the town’s role in the war effort. It’s an easy half day outing, and a great option if the Texas heat or a surprise downpour has you looking for something indoors.
Terrell Heritage Museum
Housed in the old Carnegie Library building from 1904, this museum is a quick stop but a memorable one. It’s a Registered Texas Historical Landmark, and inside you’ll find artifacts and photographs that trace Terrell’s history as a railroad town. Some visitors even book the museum’s ghost tour if they’re curious about the building’s spookier reputation. Either way, it’s a nice complement to a stroll through downtown.

Even outside peach season, the Market Store usually has something worth stopping for. It’s a relaxed, family friendly outing that doesn’t take much planning.
The Scuba Ranch
Yes, you read that right, scuba diving in Terrell. The Scuba Ranch is a 22 acre spring fed lake known for clear water and a surprisingly lively underwater habitat, including Sisco the Shark, the largest freshwater shark in North America. Certified divers can explore on their own, and there are options to snorkel or kayak if diving isn’t your thing. It’s an unexpected adventure for a town this size, and a fun way to cool off.
Buc-ee’s
No Terrell list is complete without mentioning the original North Texas Buc-ee’s. At nearly 60,000 square feet with about 90 fuel pumps, it’s as much a destination as a pit stop. Stock up on snacks, grab lunch, or just take in the spectacle if you’ve never experienced one before. It’s a fun, easy stop on your way in or out of town.
