Staying at Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park puts you in a great spot for more than just Terrell. Dallas and its surrounding sights are an easy drive away, making it simple to spend the day exploring and still be back at camp before dark. Whether you’re craving a city day, some fresh air, or a slower paced afternoon, here are a few of our favorite nearby destinations worth the short drive.
Downtown Dallas and the Arts District
For a full city experience, head into downtown Dallas. The Dallas Arts District is home to the Dallas Museum of Art and the Crow Museum of Asian Art, both worth a few hours if you enjoy browsing galleries. If you’re traveling with history buffs, the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza offers an in depth look at the JFK assassination and is one of the city’s most visited sites. Cap off your visit with a trip up Reunion Tower for sweeping views of the skyline, or snap a photo with the bronze longhorns at Pioneer Plaza.
Fort Worth Stockyards
If you want a taste of cowboy culture, Fort Worth is about an hour from Terrell and worth the drive. The historic Stockyards district hosts a live cattle drive twice daily, and there’s plenty to explore at the Cowtown Coliseum and surrounding shops and restaurants. In the evening, Billy Bob’s, known as the world’s largest honky tonk, is a fun stop for live music if you’re staying late. It’s a full day if you want it to be, or an easy half day if you’re keeping things relaxed.
White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum
For a slower pace, White Rock Lake and the neighboring Dallas Arboretum are a great choice. The lake has a walking and biking trail that loops the water, perfect for stretching your legs, while the Arboretum’s gardens are especially beautiful in spring and fall. It’s a nice option if you want fresh air and scenery without the busier feel of downtown.
Cedar Hill State Park
Just outside Dallas, Cedar Hill State Park sits along Joe Pool Lake and offers hiking trails, fishing, biking, and birdwatching. The Penn Farm Agricultural History Center inside the park is a nice bonus stop if you’re curious about the area’s farming roots. It’s a good pick if your group wants an outdoor day without traveling too far from the city.
Canton’s First Monday Trade Days
If your visit lines up with the right weekend, Canton’s First Monday Trade Days is worth the trip. Held the weekend before the first Monday of each month, this massive trade days market covers hundreds of acres with thousands of vendors selling everything from antiques and furniture to clothing and crafts. It’s one of the largest events of its kind in the country, and a fun way to spend a few hours browsing and hunting for finds.
Plan Your Day Trip
The beauty of staying at Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park is that you’ve got options. A big city day in Dallas, a slower nature focused outing, or a unique stop like Canton’s trade days, all within a comfortable drive. Pick whichever fits your group’s pace, and you’ll be back at the park with plenty of evening left to relax.
